A SHORT ACCOUNT ON CASES OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE, ARREST, DETAINING AND SHOOTING IN PAPUA, 30 April 2013 – 22 May 2013

NGOs an Churches have been reporting about a series of massive violence, shooting, killing, state’s denial of the democratic expressions of opinion, forced disbandment of the peaceful demonstration, arrest and detaining combined with torture in several places, such as in Sorong, Jayapura, Biak, Timika adan Wamena, from 30 April 2013 to 22 May 2013.
In the reports it was state that the security troops of the Papua Police and Indonesian Military of the KODAM XVII/Cenderawasih were the main actors. The democracy in Papua has totally been suppressed. Foreign reporters, international diplomats, and international human rights institutes are “banned” to visit Papua Land.


Commission for Missing People and Victims of Inhumane Actions (Komisi untuk Orang Hilang dan Korban Tindak Kekerasan -- KontraS) dan National Papua Solidarity (NAPAS) in Jakarta revealed the same information also, that the state security actions have resulted in four people were shot dead, four people critically wounded, 34 people were arrested, 21 people were detained for legal process with treason charges, except for the Chairman of KNPB, Victor Yeimo, who was jailed to complete his 2 years penalty in prison.
